Yes it’s almost that time again! In just two weeks, the Gluten Free Expo 2011 will take Sydney Olympic Park by storm. Okay, that may be overplaying it a bit, but we at GFF love this annual food fest!
These shows usually run over a weekend, but this year the Expo will run on Friday evening (4-8pm on August 26) and all day Saturday (9am-5pm on August 27).
Because it’s the only gluten free show going on in Sydney this year, we at GFF plan to really make the most of it. We will head into Homebush on Saturday morning with trolleys and bags at the ready, and a million questions for our favourite exhibitors. Read the rest of this entry »

Pastry Pantry in action
One of the holy grails of gluten free cookery would have to be pastry. How I toiled in the early days trying to create something akin to sausage rolls to pack in my little boy’s lunchbox—only to find the pastry (both homemade and packet mix) would break when I tried to roll it—and then emerge rock hard from my oven.
Then I discovered Pastry Pantry ready-made puff and shortcrust pastry sheets. They actually behaved like normal pastry even though they contained no wheat or dairy.
But several months ago, our supermarket suddenly stopped selling it (read more about this here), but now it’s back with a brand new recipe and packaging in some selected outlets.

Gluten-free Babycakes
Discovery: Navigating the delights of New York’s retail precinct and tourist circuit is more time consuming than you’d think!
Result: Not as much insight into gluten free living New York style as we hoped.
