Choices gluten free bakery

Choices gluten free bakery

This weekend we jumped in the car and headed for Choices gluten & wheat free bakery in Sydney’s Turramurra.

It was our first trip because it is a good 40 minutes away in quiet traffic. But we were inspired by news on the Gluten Free Pages that Choices has opened new Sydney stores. It now has outlets in Bondi Junction, Bella Vista and Mona Vale.

Though none of them are close to us, this is still great news and gives me hope that a gluten free bakery may some day open its doors in my neck of the woods.

Like most of the specialist bakeries they will deliver to other areas. But for those like me who like hands-on shopping, there do seem to be more bricks & mortar bakeries popping up. Silly Yaks for instance has opened a factory outlet for its frozen bakery goods in Preston Victoria.  Then there is Deeks Bakery & Cafe in Canberra.

Now our trip to Choices was a bit of an expensive expedition given we had some pent up demand for the goodies they were selling there.  These included loaves, buns, pies, sausage rolls, pizzas and pizzabases, reheatable meals, croissants, danishes, and some cakes.

fingerbunBut it was so cool to be in a shop where the kids could for once choose anything that took their fancy. One opted for a gingerbread man (which was indistinguishable from the gluten variety), the other a fingerbun (very yummy but a little unusual in texture so it was given away) and a pink lamington (perfect).

pieI went for a small cooked meat pie which was very nice, especially the pastry, and I also bought some frozen uncooked sausage rolls (eaten for lunch by the kids today, thumbs up).

I also bought a couple of baguettes which went in the freezer along with an apple and blueberry crumble which was bought on the sly by dad, who incidentally is not gluten free.

Oh and I bought a stash of caramel slices to put into lunch boxes on school cake days (which can be a difficult time for obvious reasons).

We’d like to add to our list of gluten free bakery outlets so as always, keep us posted.

Cake Mania in Parramatta do gluten free cakes and biscuits and they are beautiful. They look like regular food and taste yummy. I am fairly fussy and I love this shop!!

Thanks – we’ll visit next time we are there!

I’ll have to go to choices some time soon – maybe next time I go off to Sydney! They’re apparently really quite good, from what I’ve heard.

I get rolls from Deeks here in Canberra!

I’ve been to choices and bought a gluten free muffin it was yum! I’ve also heard of a gluten free bakery in leichhardt called Healthy Feast. It’s not near me so I hvnt checked it out yet. I read about them in the sydney morning herald.
